IT Audit Services are focused on two distinct components:
1) assessing IT infrastructure that is used to support audit requirements, and
2) as a current state analysis of an organisation’s IT infrastructure.
Historically organisation’s have related “audit” to only the financial / legal reporting requirements, focussing on the collation of data and the preparation of reports, and not on how to leverage IT to support audit reporting requirements. IT assets are increasingly playing a role in managing the audit process; improving the “audit ability” and efficiency of businesses processes. As a result it is important to consider how IT systems can support these processes, i.e. through capturing appropriate logs, customised audit reports, access controls, and segregation of duties monitoring.
Current state analysis IT audits are also an important way for an organisation to assess the effectiveness of IT infrastructure (including both hardware and software), and the associated business processes that underpin these various technologies. Appropriate decisions can then be made related to decommissioning, acquisition, containment or promoting the use of particular technologies with an organisation. IT Audits can assess whether the IT Infrastructure is fit for purpose, and evaluate the synergy between the various IT assets that comprise a business function or service. This can significant improve the return on investment from IT assets, and decrease the likelihood of incorrect or ineffective IT acquisition.
